Summary:
In Motivation in literacy Development by Cecchini and Perez, the authors explain how motivation plays a huge part in literacy and isnt always looked at. They show through various examples of the 8 honors students from the University of Central Florida, that curiosity and freedom, the effects of family, reading for fun, and technology increase literacy. This article shows that its not always the literacy sponsor, but our desire to learn, which comes in different forms, that increases our literacy.
1. The authors do not put their own histories into the article which i think is good because if they did, then it could seem bias. i think it worked that they used 8 honors students. they didint really need to put themselves into it.
2. I think it is ok to refer to ourselves in 1st person because it makes it more personal and seem like you are involved in what you are writing. If it is multiple people, i would refer to 3rd person.
Reflection:I liked this article. I think it is a very important gap because if people dont desire to learn what is around them, it doesnt matter what the literacy sponsor is.
I disagree with you. I think that they should have included their own histories into the paper. Although they had the histories of 8 other people, I think by adding their own into the paper as well, it would have given us, as the readers, a better inside look to what it was like for them when they learned to become literate.
