February 6 post

 Summary:
In Sponsors of Literacy, by Deborah Brandt, she explains the concept of Literacy sponsor as being the agents that support, teach and model literacy.  She explains that we learn to write in certain ways by the way that literacy is advertised and by whom. The people who advertise a certain literacy gain some advantage by this.

1.  A literacy sponsor is an "any agents, local or distant, concrete or abstract, who enable, support, teach, model, as well as recruit, regulate, suppress, or withhold literacy- and gain advantage by it in some way. Pg 334

3. The sponsors sometimes missaproperiate literacy lessons because they do not consider the racial groups. Because of this sometimes only the high class groups can understand what they are trying to convey.

4. I am not completely sure but i think she means the strategy in which to reach the audience but it could be risky because they want to reach the right people and that raises the stakes.

A&E 1

I think that much of my aquired literacy comes from the Church and Christian ministry that I am involved in because it is what my life and activities are revolved around so I absorb much of the literacy there.  A lot comes from growing up in my school and in my household with my parents.

Reflection: i thought this article was cool and it was interesting.  It was a topic i hadnt really thought about before

  1. I agree with you! This article was interesting because I never really thought about where literacy comes from before.
