Summary:
In “What is it we do when we write articles like this one- and how can we get students to join us?”, Klein describes a situation at the night library where all the students, high school and college, sit and have conversation about other things while doing “research” for a paper which they merely report. He explains that research is more than just collecting existing information. It is about answering real questions (klein 22). He describes the hunting and gathering process in which we find what we are looking for and discover what might be of use (Klein 23). He shows this process through the research of 8 professors from different departments and dissects what they do during research. He writes this article in hope that students will learn to effectively and rhetorically learn how to hunt and gather research.

1. My experiences are much like the night study where I report what I read but because of our class now, I feel like I understand the process of rhetorical reading and writing and the hunting and gathering better. I still struggle with researching how he explains in the process of sifting and seeking that he describes
3. Research plays a role that the professors collect research first, then pull what they want out of it, seek patterns in data to draw conclusions and translate what they have found. They use research to make and establish their own data and findings. My research usually is to just regurgitate a certain point that I am trying to make. This is also something I have struggled with in our past paper.
4. I would research much more so that I would have enough data to draw conclusions from. I would follow his four step process more clearly. I would not use research to just support a point, but to use the web of intertext to collaborate and see the collaboration of data.
Response:
I think this was a good article. I think it really restates the rhetorical reading, writing, framing, intertext, discourse communities concepts that we have already read. I did like some of the examples from the professors but was confused by what he meant on some of them. I did like the 4 step process and I feel like hunting and gathering was a good metaphor when he said that the gatherer discovers what might be of use.
Your summary does a good job of summing up what the article is about and including everything that happens.
