Summary:
In the article, Annoying ways people use sources, Stedman talks about numerous ways that sources are incorrectly used and how to fix the problem so that as writers, we can better cite and use our sources. He explains many ways in which we use these sources incorrectly such as pulling quotes out of no where without introducing them, inappropriately ending paragraphs with quotes, using quotes to sound authoritative and a few others. After, he shows how to fix the problems so that we can cite usefully.
Questions:
1. His advice adds on to the advice from Greene, Kantz and porter because they talked about how to use sources as arguments in our ideas and framing of our papers and now we are being taught how to know when to use them in the actual context of the paper.
2. I have been taught to put sources wherever in a paper that I feel like I should. I have used them to back up arguments and not as bringing up an original argument but i have definatly used them in the context that readers would be annoyed as he was stated. Also, I used MLA format.
3. I am not sure that my views have changed from this particular reading, but I think I am more aware and will refer to this article when writing so that I do not use them incorrectly.
Response:
I enjoyed this reading and think that it is necessary. It gave me great guidelines about how to cite appropriately and in a non annoying way. It really added to what we have already learned about framing and intertext from our other readings and this put it together a little more.
